Break up for February half term
This half term we will be learning...
Phonics
We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme. A weekly information sheet will be sent home via ClassDojo to inform parents what children have been learning that week. Please support children at home by practicing the phonemes, tricky words and sentences. The images below shows how children are taught to form letters correctly and the sounds they have already learnt.

English
This half term we will be applying our phonics skills to writing, developing our spelling, letter formation and using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. We will be focusing on texts which enable us to create a re write of the story and also explore non fiction to retrieve information. We are using the text Emma Jane's Aeroplane for our re write, and our experience of our school trip for our recount.
Maths

Our Maths curriculum follows the White Rose Maths scheme, which is designed to help children develop a deep understanding of key mathematical concepts. This half-term focuses on place value within 20, building on our previously learnt knowledge of numbers within 10. We will then finish off the term adding and subtracting numbers within 20. This includes skills such as counting, adding one more and one less, comparing numbers, reading numbers as words and using a numberline. .

Science
In our science learning this half term, we will be looking at materials. We will begin by sorting objects by the materials they are made of. We will list everyday materials and describe their simple properties. Below is a knowledge organiser displaying some of the vocabulary we will be learning and discussing.

History
In our History topic, Discover and Explore, children will explore different inventors and inventions. They will learn about different transport, such as the invention of the aeroplane and the inventors of this - The Wright Brothers. Children will understand how important inventions have influenced the world we live in today, while learning about the achievements of Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong.
Art
In Art, children will use different materials to create their own artwork and explore colour, shape, and texture. They will be inspired by artists like Cecilia Vicuna to develop their ideas and imagination.
RE
For our RE studies we follow the Kirklees Agreed Syllabus.
This half term our key question will be
'How and why do some people pray?'
Pupils learn what prayer is, the different ways people pray, and why prayer matters to individuals and communities. They look at examples from different religions, such as Christianity and Islam, and discover that prayer can involve words, silence, actions, or special places. Children also consider the reasons people pray, including giving thanks, asking for help, finding comfort, or feeling close to God. Through discussion and reflection, pupils are encouraged to think about the meaning of prayer and understand that people may experience and practise prayer in different ways.
PSHE
In My Happy Mind – Appreciate sessions, children will learn about the importance of appreciating themselvesd and others. They will explore feelings of happiness and gratitude, share positive experiences, and develop confidence and kindness through fun activities and discussions.

Music
As musicians, we follow the Charanga music scheme.
In Music Inspired by the World around us this term, children will explore new songs and enjoy singing together. They will learn about rhythm, pitch, and expression while having fun making music as a group.
