This half term we will be learning...
Phonics
We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme. A weekly information sheet will be sent home via ClassDojo to inform parents what children have been learning that week. Please support children at home by practicing the phonemes, tricky words and sentences. The images below shows how children are taught to form letters correctly and the sounds they have already learnt.

English
This half term we will be applying our phonics skills to writing, developing our spelling, letter formation and using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. We will be focusing on texts which enable us to create a re write of the story and also explore non fiction to retrieve information. We are using the following texts to inspire our ideas:

Maths

Our Maths curriculum follows the White Rose Maths scheme, which is designed to help children develop a deep understanding of key mathematical concepts. This half-term focuses on addition and subtraction, building on our previously learnt knowledge of numbers within 10. This includes skills such as counting, adding one more and one less, comparing numbers, reading numbers as words and using a numberline. We will then finish off the term exploring 3D shapes, learning their names and practise describing their properties.

Science
In our science learning this half term, we will be looking at seasonal change. We will begin by exploring different types of weather and how they change throughout the four seasons. We will observe how the weather changes, measure and compare the amount of daylight and darkness at different times of the year, and link these changes to the months in which they happen. Below is a knowledge organiser displaying some of the vocabulary we will be learning and discussing.

Geography
In our Geography topic, Our Local Area, children will explore the area around our school. They will learn about different human and physical features, such as houses, shops, hills, and rivers. The children will also use maps and simple directions to describe places and routes in their local environment.
Art
In Art, children will use different materials to create their own artwork and explore colour, shape, and texture. They will be inspired by artists like Kandinsky and Goldsworthy to develop their ideas and imagination.
RE
For our RE studies we follow the Kirklees Agreed Syllabus.
This half term our key question will be
'How can we make good choices?'
This explores how people always face moral choices. It starts with a consideration of what makes a happy classroom, and why rules are important. Pupils then study moral codes from Christianity, Judaism and Islam including the Ten Commandments and the Five Pillars and the ways in which Sikhs, Buddhists and Hindus make good choices. They also look at non-religious stories and how these exemplify some guidelines for life. They are invited to respond by considering what would make the best rules for life.
PSHE
In My Happy Mind – Celebrate sessions, children will learn about the importance of celebrating achievements, special moments, and the successes of themselves and others. They will explore feelings of happiness and gratitude, share positive experiences, and develop confidence and kindness through fun activities and discussions.

Music
As musicians, we follow the Charanga music scheme.
In Let’s Start Singing this term, children will explore new songs and enjoy singing together. They will learn about rhythm, pitch, and expression while having fun making music as a group.
